The son of an elderly man who died after a protester hit him in the head with a brick, says he can't understand the ruthlessness that led to such an act.

He also said that he has never felt such sorrow, but has been unable to cry.

CGTN reporter Zhu Dan spoke exclusively to the man on Friday, who only gave his surname of Luo.

He said his father, a 70-year-old who worked as a cleaner was completely innocent.

“It was in the afternoon. I was happy to see my dad’s voice message. When I opened it, it was his colleague’s voice instead," Luo said. "He said your dad had an accident, and said his head was shattered.”

Luo rushed to the hospital but he never got a chance to talk to his father again.

“Seeing his body (in the hospital), with tubes, lying in the bed, I started to realize I won't have a chance to be a good son to him," he said. "If I could talk to him now I would tell him: I love you."

“Everyone has two people they know most intimately in this world, your dad and mom. And now I only have one.”

To the perpetrator he said that he or she should turn themselves in. He also asked that any witnesses to the incident speak to police.

"You should turn yourself in. I also hope more victims come out. And if someone knows where the perpetrator is, please go to the police." Luo said.
