On Tuesday, Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin announced that they will be stepping down as executives of the parent company Alphabet.

In a letter on Google's blog, the two founders explained why they were stepping down, comparing the company to a 21 young adult.

"While it has been a tremendous privilege to be deeply involved in the day-to-day management of the company for so long, we believe it’s time to assume the role of proud parents,” the letter said.

The duo confirmed they would remain active as board members for the company.
