The FBI says it had the second-highest number of firearm background checks on Black Friday, which is an indication of the day’s sales.

There were 202,465 reported gun background checks, which is just shy of the record 2017 Black Friday checks of 203,086.

Gun ownership in America is a contested issue with many saying the second amendment constitutional right is being abused. Others believe it is an inalienable American right and believe the U.S. government should not interfere.

The United States has the highest rate of civilian-owned firearms per capita on Earth. There are more guns in America than people, with estimates at around 393 million civilian-owned firearms.

Still, the number of U.S. households with one or more guns in 2019 is tied with 2013 to be the lowest since 1972.

This may mean that although the number of households with own guns is dropping, the ones who own guns are buying more.
