Argentina swore in its new president, Alberto Fernandez, on Tuesday.

The 60-year-old center-left politician beat incumbent Mauricio Macri in the October presidential elections.

So who is Alberto Fernandez?

 - Peronist: He is a member of the Peronist political movement, which is based on the ideas of former president Juan Peron.

 - His vice president is former president Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner.

 - One of his biggest tasks upon entering office? The economy. Argentina is currently in a recession. Inflation is over 50 percent and poverty is reaching 40 percent, according to Reuters.

 - Fernandez entered politics in the early 1980's and finished law school at the University of Buenos Aires around the same time.

 - In 2003, he led the campaign for former president Nestor Kirchner and then, in 2007, for former president Cristina Kirchner (Nestor's wife). He then served as head of cabinet ministers for both administrations. He resigned in 2008 from Cristina Kirchner's administration over policy disagreements, according to the BBC.
