Immigrant advocates are suing the Trump administration for ending a free hotline for detained immigrants.
It was a non-recorded line that enabled immigrants to connect with lawyers and stay in contact when they were transferred to multiple facilities, according to KTLA 5.
The nonprofit group Freedom for Immigrants, ran the hotline and are suing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Los Angeles federal court.
The hotline was shut down in August after it was featured in the Netflix show Orange is the New Black, according to the nonprofit group, the LA Times reports.
ICE has declined to comment about the lawsuit but says the group was notified they were misusing the hotline, according to KTLA.
Freedom for Immigrants says their confidential hotline received as many as 14,000 calls a month.
