"The China-U.S. economies are highly complementary," Ning Jizhe, head of China's National Bureau of Statistics said in a press conference Friday after China and the U.S. reached a Phase One trade deal.

He also said the two countries have the potential to expand trade cooperation in many areas.

"Expect this with agricultural products. Under WTO rules and market rules, China and the U.S. will work together and help to promote Chinese enterprises as market leaders and expand imports from the United States in energy, manufactured goods and services, as needed," he added.
