A viral video shows police in India continued to beat a man after they dragged him out from a house.

Police threw the man on the pavement and continued to attack him with sticks.

And then, several brave women formed a human shield around him to protect the man from the violence.

One of these women threw herself in front of the man while the police still tried to hit him.

The students were from Jamia Millia Islamia University and part of the protest against a new citizenship law in India that grants amnesty to illegal immigrants, unless they are Muslim, from three neighboring countries.

On Sunday, more than 100 activists protesting the new law at the university were injured during clashes with Indian police who fired tear gas to disperse the crowd.
