Russian state TV just called Trump an ‘Agent’

A Russian state-owned TV channel just aired a segment about U.S. President Trump’s meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called, “Puppet Master and ‘Agent’—How to Understand Lavrov’s Meeting With Trump.”

Commentators joked about Trump experiencing a ‘very unhappy period’ after leaving office, while the host alluded to Trump possibly needing to be given asylum in Russia.

This isn't the first time that the president's loyalty has been brought into question on television. Last month, American cable TV news host Joe Scarborough said he thought that Trump is "either an agent of Russia or he's a useful idiot," while on a show about the impeachment hearings.

The ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia has seen Moscow using any available opportunity to take a jab at its neighbor. In late November, members from the American intelligence community briefed U.S. senators on how Russia waged a years-long operation to blame Ukraine for its own meddling in the 2016 U.S. elections.

Last month, Russian President Vladimir Putin said: “Thank God no one is accusing us of interfering in the U.S. elections anymore. Now they’re accusing Ukraine.”
