A satellite discovered one of the largest methane leaks ever recorded in the U.S.

The satellite’s job is to continuously monitor the planet for methane leaks, according to the Independent.
Dutch-American scientists discovered the leak last year. It came from a gas-well accident at an Ohio fracking site.

The scientists say these findings show that methane gas releases could be more widespread than previously thought.
According to the scientists, the well released more methane than the entire oil and gas industry of many nations do in a year.

Methane gas is a greenhouse gas that contributes to global warming.
