In 2019, extreme weather conditions have wreaked havoc across Africa. 

There were cyclones that struck Mozambique and Zimbabwe, floods that inundated some parts of the continent and droughts that plagued others. 

Torrential rains have also led to many deaths. But new efforts at improved weather forecasting could cut costs and save lives.
