U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi signed two articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump to send the Senate late Wednesday afternoon.   

The charges were carried in procession across the U.S. Capitol by lawmakers prosecuting the case, moving the impeachment out of Speaker Pelosi's Democratic-run House to the Republican-majority Senate, where the president's team is mounting a defense aiming for swift acquittal. 

It is only the third such trial in American history.
