Two police officers were killed in a shooting Sunday morning near Diamond Head in Hawaii, according to law enforcement officials.

A female officer was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later died. Law enforcement officials say, another officer was also in critical condition and died from injuries.

The FBI said authorities were responding to an "active shooter" in Waikiki, Hawaii. "We are responding to an active shooter in Waikiki. That is what we are responding to. It is developing," FBI Honolulu Operational Support Technician Derek Hayes said.

Soon after the shooting incident was reported, the home believed to be the scene of the shooting caught fire and became fully engulfed in flames.

Witnesses say the fire has spread to at least four other nearby homes.

Several vehicles, including a marked Honolulu Police Department vehicle, were also on fire.

This is a developing story.
