This Chinese Lunar New Year holiday, visitors to the United States capital can expect to experience something fun and unique. A massive Chinese arts and culture installation has been set up at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC. Visitors will enjoy the sights, sounds, and tastes of the Winter Lights Festival, where Chinese artisans have created about 100 lanterns which are powered by 10,000 colored LED lights.

One of the main lantern attractions is the twelve Chinese zodiacs. Each zodiac is represented by an animal and its characteristics. This year is the year of the rat, which is first of the 12 recurring animals in the calendar and is believed to represent intelligence, quick thinking, and success but lacks courage.

Other activities include musical performances, food trucks, cultural activities like calligraphy, and much more.

The REACH Winter Lanterns Festival runs from January 22 through February 2, 2020.
