During a Thursday press conference at the International Monetary Fund in Washington DC, spokesman Gerry Rice spoke with reporters about the coronavirus outbreak in China and its possible economic impact there.

While he said tourism and commerce are being negatively affected by the outbreak, especially in Hubei Province, it is too soon to quantify the longer term economic impact on the country.

Rice said the full extent of the impact will depend on how long it takes to control and eradicate the virus.
