Fighting the coronavirus: What are the symptoms?

The new coronavirus identified in China has infected more than 9,000 people and killed more than 200.

Beyond its origin on the Chinese mainland, the virus has spread to Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and 19 foreign countries. Several countries are working to evacuate their citizens from the region.

The World Health Organization declared the coronavirus an international public health emergency.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control has issued a Level 3 travel alert for China, telling Americans to "avoid all nonessential travel" to the country, while the U.S. State Department has issued a Level 4 alert for Wuhan, firmly warning Americans not to travel at all to the city at the center of the outbreak.

Still, the CDC says there is no need for Americans to panic.

If you or someone you know has these symptoms, the CDC says to see a doctor but call ahead and notify them of your symptoms and recent travels.

There is no vaccine or specific antiviral treatment for this coronavirus, but patients are advised to seek medical attention to relieve symptoms and help track the outbreak.
