Magnitude 5.1 earthquake hits SW China's Sichuan

No casualties have been reported after a 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck Qingbaijiang District of Chengdu City in southwest China's Sichuan Province just past Sunday midnight.

The quake lasted for more than 10 seconds. Urban areas of Chengdu also felt strong tremors.

The quake started at 00:05 a.m., with a depth of 21 kilometers, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).

The Department of Emergency Management of Sichuan Province immediately activated a level three emergency response after the quake, and dispatched a team to the epicenter to direct rescue work.
