Shakira and Jennifer Lopez made football history as the first Latina duo to headline the Super Bowl.
Shakira, from Barranquilla, Colombia and Jennifer Lopez, who is of Puerto Rican descent, performed hits such as “Whenever, Wherever” and “Jenny form the Block.”
This comes as the N.F.L is trying to boost their Latino viewership. According to the N.F.L, 9% of the average television audience this football season were Latino. The Institute for Diversity and Ethics in Sport’s says 0.5% of N.F.L players are Latino or of Latino descent.
