The entire public transport system there is currently suspended and airports, as well as railway stations, are closed. Thirty-one other regions have also initiated emergency protocols to manage the virus, including the cancellation of public events and the monitoring of travelers.

"The people united are fighting against the epidemic,"Ambassador Zhu writes. He says the people of China are following the government's warnings and self-quarantining where required.

Ambassador Zhu also says China is maintaining open communication with the World Health Organization and the international community to keep them informed about the coronavirus.

He quotes WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus as saying, "China is setting a new standard for epidemic response."

As for the situation in Mexico, Ambassador Zhu says the Chinese government has kept Mexico City well informed on developments and stands ready to help in any way needed going forward.
