Women are dominating forensic science.
78% of forensic science students in the U.S. were women as far back as 2008, according to a study done by West Virginia University.
That study lists an early interest in science, personal trauma or wanting to help society, as reasons women cited for choosing the forensic field.
The so-called "CSI effect" is also credited for drawing women to the field. Popular U.S. television shows like "CSI" and "Bones" feature strong female role models, portraying women scientists in a positive light.
