The U.S. has slapped sanctions on a Russian oil firm accused of supporting Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro, the latest in a long list of U.S. sanctions aimed at forcing the Venezuelan President from power. 

The U.S. and Russia are on opposing sides of Maduro's fight to continue as President of Venezuela with the country's oil industry in the center of the controversy.
