The U.S. says it is standing with the people of Iran as they fight against the coronavirus outbreak. 

In a press statement, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Washington is ready to "assist the Iranian people in their response efforts," including exemption from sanctions on food and medicine.

At the same time, the U.S. is calling on Iran to cooperate fully and transparently with international health organizations.

Pompeo said the offer of support has been formally conveyed to Iran through Switzerland's government.
