Carnival in the streets of Recife, the capital of Pernambuco state, begins in style with the Galo da Madrugada – the Dawn Rooster block party. Huge crowds take to the streets for hours of music, dancing, drinking and all sorts of costumes. 

The Galo da Madrugada is registered in the Guinness Book of World Records as the biggest carnival block party in the world, attracting a crowd of more than two million people to the streets of Recife.

CGTN's Paulo Cabral spoke to Pernambuco State Governor Paulo Camara about the region's carnival culture and economy.
