The U.S. state of Tennessee declared a state of emergency on Wednesday after a deadly tornado hit the Nashville area. 

Rescue workers are still searching for 17 people who are missing. 

The National Weather Service is assessing the damage after a tornado touched down when many people were asleep. 

Putnam County was hit hardest. At least 18 people were killed there.
