The United States government pledged $100 million in aid to China in February to help fight the coronavirus, but China says it never materialized.
Speaking at a press briefing Friday China's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Geng Shuang said that while U.S. businesses, organizations, and people have donated funds and assistance to support China, government funding never came.
"U.S. officials said on many occasions that they are going to offer $100 million to assist China and other countries impacted by the coronavirus," Geng said.
"I'm not sure whether others have received it, but I can clearly tell you that so far, China has not received any assistance in cash or in kind in the name of the U.S. government."
He added that the U.S. Agency for International Development said they would provide masks, protective suits and other medical supplies to China.
"But it didn't notify us that those supplies were ready until March 11." Geng said.
"Considering the progress in China's epidemic response and the fast spreading of the pandemic around the world, China has given an official reply to the U.S., expressing thanks, and asking them to deliver these supplies to countries in more urgent need."
