Hydroxychloroquine: How effective is the drug Trump is keen on?

Recently, Hydroxychloroquine, a drug used to treat malaria, has started to show up more in conversations about how to fight COVID-19. U.S. President Donald Trump touts the drug as a sort of miracle cure.

However, the WHO said there is no definitive evidence that it works as an "off-label" medication for COVID-19. Public health expert and member of the White House COVID-19 task force, Dr. Anthony Fauci, said he isn't spending any money on it.

CGTN spoke with Stanley Perlman, professor of Microbiology and Immunology, and Pediatrics at the University of Iowa about the drug's uses and its actual effects.
