This couple just got married, in their car. Drive-through marriages are getting popular in the age of COVID-19. Rio de Janeiro's Civil Registry offices are offering from-your-car services.

"With this quarantine, this confinement at home, we decided to get married because we are worried that something can happen to us, so why not do it now?" Walmir Loureiro, an administrative assistant who was married in his car, said.

150 drive-through marriages have been sealed here over the last six weeks.

Fabio Neder, a local clerk providing marriage services says he thinks he knows why the service is becoming more popular.

"People are legalizing their partnerships, now during the pandemic, for practical reasons like health insurance but also because they are rethinking their own lives," Nedar said.
