Gulf Shores, a town of around 12,000 residents along the southern coast of the U.S. state of Alabama, plans to reopen its beaches on May 1 with social distancing rules in place, following a neighboring state's decision on Friday to reopen some beaches.

While travelling through nine states over the last couple of weeks, as well as the city of Gulf Shores, CGTN's Sean Callebs and his cameraman made sure to take plenty of precautions in the middle of the pandemic. They used every day products and personal protective equipment such as masks, disinfecting aerosol and wipes to keep any coronavirus off not only the steering wheel, but also surfaces like shoes, the glovebox and doors.

CGTN's news team is headed to New Orleans in the state of Louisiana, which has more than 23,000 cases - one of the nation's pandemic hotspots.  More coverage in the days ahead.
