During an interview with the NBC's Janis Mackey Frayer on Tuesday, China’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Yucheng refuted suspicions from U.S. intelligence agencies regarding the underreporting of outbreak in China.

Responding to accusations that China repeatedly lowered counts of confirmed cases and mortalities, Mr. Le said numbers from Chinese authorities were open and transparent as many industries are gradually reopening to workers and consumers and the worst-hit city of Wuhan was lifted from lockdown.

Mr. Le added that he has "100 percent confidence" in China's pandemic data as holding the true statistics back from people would be an irresponsible act and it would be extremely disrespectful toward medics who had fought the contagion for months.
