Spain's health ministry reported 15,000 health workers were sick or self-isolating in the country. Doctors and nurses have faced a shortage of personal protective equipment in hospitals. And as the number of patients increase, they also have to work long hours.

In this clip from CGTN America's Big Story: Widespread, Carlota Gudiol, an Infectious Disease Specialist works in a hospital in Spain. She filmed a video at the hospital while working a 24 -hour shift.

She says the hospital lacks enough personal protective suits for medical staff to safely treat COVID-19 patients. Gudiol also says they were forced to wear cafeteria aprons to protect themselves from infection. Despite being exhausted, they manage to laugh.

With the third highest COVID-19 death toll in the world, Spain has recorded 24, 543 deaths on Thursday.
