A surfer was captured amidst spectacular, neon, glowing waves in Southern California earlier this week.

The neon blue hues in bioluminescent waves, although stunning, are from algae bloom known as Red Tide. Overgrowth of Phytoplankton glows when agitated to the surface by the oceans movement.

Red Tide can have harmful impacts on wildlife according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
