China expressed deep concerns about Israel's annexation plans for Palestine on Wednesday at a UN Security Council meeting on the situation in the Middle East. China says it firmly supports Palestine in building an independent and sovereign state on the basis of the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
On Tuesday, Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas announced that he abolished all agreements with Israel and the United States in protest against Israel's plans to annex parts of the occupied West Bank.
Ambassador Zhang Jun, the Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations emphasized that the Palestinian Question is not "something for trading" and it is important to follow the "two-state solution" to resolve the issue. He urged that no country should support "such dangerous unilateral actions" and said the UN should do its part to prevent such a move that could escalate conflict and tensions in the area.
