Over the past week, thousands of people in the U.S. have taken to the streets to protest the killing of an unarmed African American by a white police officer.

The question many are asking is what impact these large gatherings are having in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Health experts warn protesters need to get tested.

State leaders point out that even though restrictions are being eased and businesses reopened, the coronavirus remains a threat.

"With the protesters, they could actually compound the situation. Why? You have 30,000 people who've been protesting statewide. You look at the video; as well as, I looked at the video. Many of them wear masks, thank God, but there's no social distancing. You look at the encounters with the police, the police are right in their face. They're right in the face of the police," said New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Health officials say it could be a couple of weeks before communities see an impact from the protests and large gatherings.
