Some economists are predicting the COVID-19 lockdown will accelerate the end of brick and mortar retail in the US. In recent weeks Gap has stopped paying rent on its stores and both J.Crew and Neiman Marcus have filed for bankruptcy. So as areas of the US begin relaxing coronavirus restrictions, shops are urgently looking for ways to adapt to a new retail landscape.
Stores have been hit hard by a record 13.6% drop in consumer spending in April.
