Latin America is a coronavirus hotspot, with the region now accounting for around 40% of daily deaths from COVID-19. But while many nations' health systems are overwhelmed, there are some countries that have largely contained the outbreak and are already returning to some sense of normality.
Uruguay acted swiftly when the first case of COVID-19 was detected in mid March, closing national borders. The international airport is now doubling as an outdoor cinema.
Uruguay's schools are set to open in June and authorities are confident many other activities may soon resume. Meanwhile, Latin America now accounts for around 40% of the world's daily deaths from COVID-19. Many fear the region is far from reaching a peak, and that countries like Uruguay may be a rare exception.
