Venezuela has made a historic shift in its long-held policy of giving away gasoline locally almost for free.

As of this week, drivers are allowed to buy limited amount​s of fuel at a modest cost; anything in excess of that they must pay international prices.

The government says U.S. sanctions are partly to blame for the change.
