It's been a tumultuous time over the past week across the United States following the death of an unarmed African American man by a white police officer. 

Many residents in Los Angeles had flashbacks to the beating of Rodney King by police officers, which was caught on videotape in 1991. 

Their acquittal led to riots and a destructive period of civil unrest. 

A history professor in Los Angeles, who's written a book about the King riots, believes the historic event draws similarities to what's happening today. Learn more.
