Protestors in Washington DC tried to take down a statue of Andrew Jackson Monday.
DC police forced them out of the area and used pepper spray.
Volunteers treated people who were sprayed with pepper spray in their eyes
Police held a standoff with protestors. Many of the officers were people of color.
The next day Trump tweeted that anyone who destroys a monument can face 10 years in prison.
On Tuesday, D.C. police had increased the number of officers and expanded the area around Lafayette Square.
They stood guard in "Black Lives Matter" plaza, created this month by the mayor following the George Floyd protests in D.C.
Andrew Jackson was the seventh president of the United States.
He was also a slave owner and slave trader. He also forcibly removed 60,000 Native Americans from their ancestral lands.
This forced migration was known as "The Trail of Tears" caused the deaths of 2,000-8,000 people.
Jackson's statute remained in front of the White House on Tuesday.
