California backed by nearly two dozen states sued the Trump administration over its latest decision to weaken fuel efficiency standards.

Earlier this year, the Environmental Protection Agency and Transportation Department had released new fuel efficiency standards for cars and trucks, rolling back more ambitious requirements put in place in 2012 under former President Barack Obama.

The move was seen as a victory for the gas and oil industries, but opponents argue having less efficient cars will increase the fuel consumption, and along with that the level of air pollution.
