An intense heat wave is expanding its scope across the United States. On Monday, heat warnings and advisories have been issued for at least 11 states from the Florida Panhandle to Southern California.

It comes at a time of dramatic surges in coronavirus cases in recent weeks, and according to experts, it could further complicate efforts by local governments to try to contain a pandemic.
