Some experts had hoped the arrival of summer would mean a slowdown in the spread of COVID-19.

However, U.S. states like Florida are seeing a spike in cases since lifting lockdown measures.

More than 10,000 new cases were documented Wednesday in Florida; Sunday, the state hit a record with more than 15,000 new cases.

The surge comes as states attempt to revive tourism and boost their economies.
