About 8,000 people in Riverside County in Southern California have been forced to flee a wildfire, which authorities say was likely deliberately set.

More than 2,500 homes were threatened. Officials said no injuries have been reported.

The fire began Friday evening in Cherry Valley, a community about an hour and a half drive east of Los Angeles. It quickly spread to more than 8,000 hectares (83 square kilometers).

More than 1,200 firefighters have been deployed to fight the fire. As of Sunday morning, authorities say very little of the blaze had been contained.

Evacuation centers were set up at local hotels and at a high school, according to fire department spokesperson Fernando Herrera.
