In the U.S. state of California, a raging wildfire has prompted the evacuation of thousands of residents over the weekend.

The fire began Friday evening in Cherry Valley, a community about an hour and a half drive east of Los Angeles.

So far, it has grown to more than 8,000 hectares (83 square kilometers). Officials said no one was injured, but one home was destroyed.

As of Monday morning, the blaze was only 5% contained. There are 2,200 fire authorities in the air and the ground working to contain the blaze.

California is known for its seasonal wildfires, and this is its first major wildfire of the year.

Authorities say the fire may have been deliberately set and a probe is underway.
