For decades, Palestinians living in occupied regions of Jerusalem and the West Bank have faced forced demolitions of homes by the Israeli military.

2019 marked the worst year with reportedly more than 140 Palestinian homes destroyed – displacing nearly 250 people.

The Israeli government has been criticized for the policies targeting Palestinian areas, while the government argues the buildings were constructed without proper permits. Palestinians say their permits are rarely approved leaving them little choice.

Khalil Jahshan, the executive director of the Arab Center Washington DC and a Palestinian-American political analyst and media commentator, discusses the demolitions and how they contribute to the worsening relations in the region.
