With the U.S. Democratic National Convention officially over and former Vice President Joe Biden having accepted the presidential nomination, Democrats are looking to November with high hopes of beating President Trump.

Thursday night's lineup included messages from Biden's rivals in the primaries - New Jersey Senator Cory Booker, former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, Pete Buttigieg, Andrew Yang and former New York city mayor, Michael Bloomberg.

Actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus moderated. Other guest speakers included Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, and 13-year-old Brayden Harrington from New Hampshire, who shared how Biden helped him overcome his stutter.

Biden accepted the Democratic presidential nomination with a promise to unify the country.

"Here and now I give you my word: If you entrust me with the presidency, I will draw on the best of us, not the worst. l'll be an ally of the light, not the darkness," he said. "Make no mistake, united we can and will overcome this season of darkness in America."

Throughout the night, there were several jabs at President Trump, notably from Louis-Dreyfus, who starred on one of most successful U.S. TV sitcoms, Seinfeld, and later played the role of Vice President on the HBO show "Veep."

"I'm proud to be a nasty, nasty woman," she said in reference to President Trump calling 2016 Democratic candidate Hilary Clinton a "nasty woman."

Trump shot back on Friday during a speech in Arlington, Virginia to the Conservative Council for National Policy.

"Over the last week, the Democrats held the darkest and angriest and gloomiest convention in American history. They spent four straight days attacking America as racist, a horrible country that must be redeemed."

The Republican National Convention is scheduled to begin on August 24th.
