Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro has pardoned over a hundred political opponents, including the chief of staff for opposition leader Juan Guaido. 

The move is viewed as a bid to boost participation in the country's parliamentary elections later this year.

But critics denounce the pardons as a "farce" saying, many had never committed any crimes in the first place.
