Port workers ran in fear that the fire that might trigger an explosion. Some local residents also chose to flee.

"For sure we are scared because it took us back, it's only been a month since the explosion that destroyed Beirut. We saw the same thing happening again," said Andre Muarbes, a local resident. "We are definitely scared and people are freaking out."

The cause is not yet clear, but the army is reportedly looking at the possibility that cooking oil stored in the building may have sparked it.

No injuries have been reported so far.

The August blast reignited protests against Lebanon's government, its leaders accused of mismanagement and corruption amid an already deep economic crisis.
