Setbacks and progress in fight against climate change

Only six years ago, the United States and China formed a partnership that led to the Paris Agreement and hope for global efforts to combat climate change. But recent disputes between the two countries have reduced that cooperation.

Many say the Trump administration's decision to withdraw from the Paris accord has set the clock back on achieving global reductions on carbon emissions.

Despite political setbacks, there is progress among local governments, NGOs and academic institutions.
