Before the WHO declared COVID-19 a pandemic, New York’s Chinatown was one of the neighborhoods hardest hit by fear of coronavirus Seven months later, many of the businesses and restaurants in the once thriving neighborhood are now on life support.
In Manhattan’s Chinatown, countless restaurants, shops and small businesses have closed for good. It was the first New York City neighborhood to feel the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic. In early August, 88 Lan Zhou, a family-run restaurant known for its dumplings and hand-pulled noodles announced that after 13 years it would close permanently due to the pandemic.
The announcement hit foodies hard.
