U.S. intelligence agencies reassure Americans on election integrity

In a nine-minute YouTube public service announcement, FBI Director Christopher Wray, along with three other heads of national security officials, assured the American public that the major intelligence agencies were working to make sure the 2020 Presidential election would be secure for all voters.

Wray, joined by NSA Director General Paul Nakasone, Director of Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency Chris Krebs, and Director of the National Counterintelligence and Security Center Bill Evanina, set out to explain how the departments were protecting the security of the election.

“The FBI is the primary investigative agency responsible for malicious cyber activity against election infrastructure, malign foreign influence operations and election-related crimes,” Wray said.

Since the beginning of the election season, there has been concerns about the safety of the election and if it could be attacked from influences at home and abroad.

For months, U.S. President Donald Trump has been attacking the legitimacy of the election, on multiple occasions calling it "rigged." The president has seized on smaller voting issues to further suggest issues with the vote.

The officials in the video made it explicitly clear how their departments were securing the election.

“At Cyber Command, we plan and execute cyber operations to defend the nation,” General Paul Nakasone said. “When we find a foreign adversary malware, we work with our U.S. Government and International partners on attribution and mitigation.”

Reports broke out over the extent of foreign interference on the U.S. Presidential election in 2016, especially from the Russian government.
