U.S. Election 2020: Battle over the postal service

The watchdog agency for the United States Postal Service released a report on Oct. 19, 2020, concluding that controversial operational changes put in place by the Trump administration this summer did indeed lead to significantly slower and less reliable mail service for Americans across the country. 

The postmaster general has since pledged to reverse those changes - in the face of state lawsuits and public outrage. 

But much of the damage is already done -- and comes at a critical time when tens-of-millions of Americans are voting by mail in this year's election.
